Gaming Headphones and Sound Card

Thread Starter
I'm currently looking to possibly grab a new sound card and a decent pair of 5.1/7.1 gaming headphones.

I'm not looking to spend a lot, $100 would be close to the max for the headphones.

This drive to get headphones was spawned by the $50 Barracuda AC-1 on woot today =). The price is nice, but I read pretty sketchy reviews. Customer service is supposed to be horrible, and apparently the card is usually quite overpriced anyway.

Best gaming headphones and sound card for a pretty low budget is my aim. Thanks all.

That's an oxymoron.

honestly, a good stereo headphone will always be better than the gimmicky surround sound headphones.

ATH-A700 pwn, been using them for awhile. Depends on if you like open or closed cans though.

get these I have them for cs:s and I love them. Right in your price range too. You just have to get a table mic. I just used the clip mic from my old Icemat Siberias, which are also a good set

I figured 5.1/7.1 headphones were pretty gimmicky, but with standard stereo headphones, can you easily to determine the direction a sound came from?

Also, any sound card recommendations for Vista x64?

5.1 cans are gimmicks.
HD555's or ATH-A500's.
[soundcard]Auzentech Prelude for Vista.

I agree. I love my HD555's for CSS. ATH-500 or ATH-700's would also be very nice

HD555 for 89.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...6392&Tpk=HD555 is a super buy.

ATH -700 for 118.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16826402012

Either would be decent. Just get a clip on mic or desktop mic.

I use the soundmax superbeam for my mic.

I'm liking those headphone recommendations, but got a cheaper option on the sound card?

I'm close to grabbing the HD555s (those reviews are incredible), but I'm wary of the open ear design. I've never owned high end headphones and the comments about it are worrying. What do you audiophiles prefer?

You could probably pick up an X-Fi extreme gamer from one of the Creative Haters around here for pretty cheap, if you can get to them before they destroy it...lol

JUST DON'T GET THE EXTREME AUDIO!

I'd say the ATH-A500's, but I'm biased. I don't like open back headphones either but the soundstaging is awesome for gaming.
