Pushing my 8600GT??

Thread Starter
I just bought an ASUS EN8600GT 512MB DDR3 with the special asus gaming fansink. It sits at 36-39 degress C depending on what the room temp is. Usuall it only goes to 40 if its ever hot in my room.

The core clock is 540Mhz and the memory is 700Mhz, but its DDR3 so really it's 1400Mhz right?

I have ASUS Smart Docotor or some **** that allows me to OC the card. I wonder if i could get it to 580/1500 or higher? Withtin stable temps, that is. This software lets you adjust clock speeds in real time, for those of you who didnt know, among other things.

After playing Crysis all high settings it only ever gets to about 43-45 degress.
So im wondering if i can OC it and would that make much of a difference taking into account the narrow 128bit bus width?

All you can do is give it a shot. Video cards are thankfully much easier to OC than CPUs or memory.

I wouldn't bother with the Asus software. Use Rivatuner 2.08 to set the clock speeds and then ATI Tools to test for stability.

The temps you claim are very low, so you have some head room. However I don't know how well 8600s OC.

I was wondering the same myself. Maybe he has the resolution set to low (1024 x 768) and a few of the advanced graphics options set to high.

Heck, with my 8800 GTS in SLI I only average 20-30 FPS with the res. set to 1680 x 1050 and with most options set to medium (sound, post processing and physics set to high)

I managed 710/900 but I wasn't happy with the temperatures so I left mine at 650/800.

What you need to do is use RivaTuner, like someone else has said. Then, make sure you unlink the shader and core so they can be clocked independently. You should be able to go pretty high on the shader. I used to own a couple EN8600GT 256MB, and I loved the card(s) even when everyone else seems to hate them. Here's a couple links to some of my old threads -

damn checked it today at 550 and it had artifacts! had to push it down to 490, but now i am thinking the artifacts are coming from heat or the PSU, cos i got a 305w in here currently.
