Fried southbridge!!

Hey guys, ive got a problem - I think ive fried my southbridge! =[

I only noticed a few days ago but on my overclock settings, my southbridge was really hot, as in when i touched it, it hurt and left fin prints on my fingers. And about 2 days ago, my overclock has suddenly started going really unstable and has constantly been bluescreening. Ive put it back to stock but i havnt tried overclocking again but the temps have lowered on my southbridge, its only warm now, not boiling. lol =].

The annoying thing is my motherboard does not display the correct temp, according to coretemp and everest, my motherboard is into the minus's. This has meant i havnt worried about motherboard temps really because i didnt know what they actually were and i had no method of finding out.

Ive been running this setting for a while now and its had no problems, but now its really unstable. Im going to get the new NZXT Tempest soon because my case is dire and has absolultly no cooling :|. It might solve the high temps but the damage feels like its already been done.

I think its my southbridge because that had the most voltage going into it and when i lowered the voltage, the heatsink seems to get cooler.

Hi,

Do the nForce chipsets have separate North/South bridges? Or are they unified?

Am not overly familiar with your particular Motherboard. However if you are having any issues with your chipset from overclocking, it will be your Northbridge as it is the chip that deals with data throughput from the CPU, RAM and Graphics card. By overclocking your system (particularly the FSB), it has to deal with a much higher level of data transfers.

The Southbridge typically is more peripheral based. So thats your USB ports, serial ports, PCI devices (sound card) etc. Hence it really doesn't get worked over too much.

I lost my Northbridge just 2 months ago. Poor thing .......... Mine was fizzled and sizzled like a sausage
Meh, good enough
