ZALMAN 9500A and A8N32-SLI Deluxe

I have a a question I have a A8N32-SLI Deluxe motherboard with a opteron 165 939 proccesor running a stock heatsink fan. I want to upgrade the heatsink to a ZALMAN 9500A heatsink. Has anyone had issues on performance or installation of this heatsink? Also I would like to add the Artic silver 5 thermal paste to the cpu, but how do I remove that old thermal paste that came with stock heatsink and now its all over the cpu do I use rubbing alcohol to remove it?

I used to run my A8N32-SLI Deluxe with the CNPS9500 AM2; is this similar to/the same as the 9500A that you're referring to?

I didn't have any specific issues with this cooler, but it may not be up to the task of cooling an overclocked Opty 165 if your case's air flow and air volume aren't copious. It needs a very healthy supply of air for it to work at its best.

To clean off old TIM, I advise using a lint-free cloth (or high-grade tissue paper, or even a coffee filter; just use something that doesn't leave any remnants behind even if it gets wet) and high-purity isopropyl alcohol (the higher the percentage, the purer it is). I use 99% isopropyl alcohol which I found available at a local Fry's Electronics store.

Hope this helps you!

Vegeta, I sometimes use a paper towel when removing the old AS5 or any other type of thermal compound. After that I typically do what txtmstrjoe suggested below when applying new TIM.

Good luck
