Then he should go for the $85 6800XT if he wants a memory clock that is 1/3 slower and only has a 128-bit memory interface. He'd be better off going with the $100 6800XT with 512 MB RAM but is still only runs at 700MHZ. I'm starting to think the card just needs to go in the trash at this point.

Whoa... Might as well get the x1650pro from newegg for $65 before shipping... ($45 after the mail in rebate). It has almost exactly the same performance as the 6800xt.

I have a PNY VERTO 6800GT!! AGP laying around , also a x1950Pro AGP
Those are 2 of the best AGP cards ever made the only better cards are 7950
and the new 3850 AGP.

I have never seen an ATI 6800 like you said they gave you back from RMA.

AGP is not dead at all , alot of people still use it. I have my x1950pro in my C2D
rig and I can play all my games fine, including Crysis, DIRT, and Vangaurd which
are all pretty beastly on GPU's. A cheap transistion option would be getting
the same mobo I have using your ddr, a cheap celly 420 or e2180, eventually you could grab a cheap used Quad, PCI-E, or AGP or both! and DDR-2 when you have the funds. The egg has my mobo open box for 37 bucks !
