Coming to the dark side - What Intel CPU to choose?

As you can see, I'm a dissapointed Phenom user and have finally decided to switch do Intel. I'll be getting a new motherboard and Intel CPU some time this year, but I don't know all that much about Intel CPU's.

I game heavily, but I also encode/decode/burn/rip and all sorts of things. I'm already using a quad core so I don't really want to go back to dual core.

I was thinking Q9550 because I'm tired of having Low end CPU's. I definitely want something better than the Q6600.

So good Intel users of overclock.net, what do you reccomend for a first time Intel user who wants GREAT performance?

Also note that I'm not that into overclocking, so don't base your suggestions entirely on overclocking possibility.

intel's quad core (q6600) will run circles around phenom, despite it's very cool branding

q6600 is easier to overclock because of it's 9x multiplier. It's not difficult to overclock at all to beat the q9550, You simply need to raise the FSB to something like 333*9 and you'll already be at 3.0Ghz on stock voltage and you could probably even get to like 3.2ghz on stock voltage.

If you' don't want to overclock, well, you've come to the wrong place my friend.

Haha well I'd like something that's already better than the Q6600 at stock.

omg your phenom rig only does 10k in 06????

man my 939 opty rig almost pull a 10k -.-

q6600 will make you happy if youw ant quad core

e8400 will make you wet yourself if you dont want quadcore

q9450 is the 45nm quad core that everyone wants, but has a retarded multi, so some work needed for OC (thought i usually prefer low multi ^^ ) and of course 3 other 45nm quad cores too look for

and the future nahelem, but will be DDR3 im sure

Well as I said I was thinking about the Q9550, how are they? Not for overclocking but for general stock usage.
To be honest, the whole reason you should be switching from Phenom to Intel should be overclocking.

At stock speeds, the intels aren't that much better than the phenom, but when you take into account the fact that it's easy to OC a Q6600 50% to 3.6 GHz, then the story changes.

The Q9550 is a great OC chip as well though, should hit 4 GHz.

An intel stock CPU is still an amazing thing.... Th reason most people don't have input to give you is because it is a 400$ Processor.....

If you don't plan to O/C it you still will not be dissapointed.

I was actually hoping for something more powerful than a Q6600.
