i dont want to go looking around for all my programs, and my 2nd HD is already full with things i need, so i cant really save anymore, i have 32 xp, and i want to install vista ultimate 64, not the upgrade one btw, sorry if this is a noob question or something, i always just delete the partitions when i have to re-install xp again, so i dont know if i keep my partitions if i will keep my files too?

Incorrect. XP is on NTFS also, at least by default (you have the choice to install it on FAT 32)

You will have to re-install all programs, but you will be able to access your files.

IMO opinion it's always better to backup your files and install on a clean drive when (re-)installing any OS.

damn that sucks, so delete all partitions on the main HD, install vista on it, then just plug in the backup HD with the old xp files on it?
