First off check to see if the one core is using resources, if it isn't try these two things together: go to sapphire and get the newest driver and reinstall 8.3 from ATI, if these two don't work then RMA the card as you have a bad core. However, I had the same issue, it would only recognize one of the two cores, except for me it would recognize three cores and not the fourth (as i have two HD3870x2's) so the following fix worked for me. I'm assuming you are using the 790FX chipset, if not this still applies. Flash the BIOS with chipset updates because some of the chipsets were playing hell on these cards so that would be a smart move. Hope it helps!

ok so first, how do i check that the one core is using resources?
the 790FX chipset, is that reference to the GPU board chipset? sorry never heard of it. ok so where would i go to get a new bios for the card?
my biggest issue is, this card WAS working fine, all was well. just recently this happened..funnily enough i noticed it after installing Service Pack 1, however after a fresh install and without the Service Pack, problem still remains.
