Tough decision on motherboards - Page 2

I keep adding stuff i know... why dont you get a q9450 and OC to 3.6. save your self some money. heck in a year they will be giving those away and there is no reason to sit there and watch an asset depreciate. I bought a Q6600 a month or so ago and up until then i had an e6400 at 3.0ghz, i paid 130 for an OEM. And the Q6600 i got for 199 at micro center

I agree about the X48 board from Gigabyte. You could also try the X38 DS4, which is under $200. If you're only going to OC the processor a little bit, why spend the money on the Extreme? Just grab yourself a Q9450 or Q9300, they should reach QX9770 stock speed without any trouble at all.

I don't understand $300 motherboards and $1000 processors.

Price is really not a factor for me. I do agree though about overclocking my QX9650 maybe I can push it to 4.3ghz as I've seen a few people do. Now if you would suggest watercooling how much attention does it need in terms of maintenance and should I buy a case with watercooling built in (ex , thermaltake tai-chi) ?.

If money is no object, then you should consider a custom PC built by CD... His WC setups are rather pimp and his craftsmanship/modding abilities are top notch. Your PC would undoubtedly be one of a kind.

I would prefer to assemble it myself (as I have done with my previous computers) , but thank you for the link. In the meantime I'm trying to do more research to see which motherboard could possibly persuade me further.

Me neither. There are some good heatsinks out there that can do a good job of cooling even for heavy overclocking.

Just out of curiosity is there any estimated release date for the Rampage Extreme ?. My supplier has a Rampage formula , but I believe that it may be the same case with the Maximus series that there will be Rampage SE and then only afterwards Extreme.

I would also like to say that other than eVGA or Asus I will not consider for my motherboard choice.

If money isn't an object then I think this should solve you cooling problems -
3D Mercury Pro (it's my personal favorite). But this is a MB suggesting thread and I still think GIGABYTE X48T-DQ6 is the best for hardcore overclocking. This is a great review on it, you should read it (or at least check out the tests)!
