WTH? Q6600 just jumped to 95C!?!?!

Ok, so all of a sudden I look at my the speedfan icon in my taskbar and it says my cores are at 95C! I have a TRUE with 2 1900rpm slipstreams on it. I was playing UT3 and I right awya closed it down and turned all my fans in my case to full RPMS. I was running my HSF at 50% RPMs. Temps dropped by 20 degrees right away to 70C, so I kept my computer on to let it cool itself off. It is now back down to a decent temperature. Wow, what a scare though. The air coming out the back of my case was actually HOT, like uncomfortable to put my hand in front of. The TRUE was too hot too touch, and usually it is cool.

Sounds like the fan got stuck, or something is stopping the airflow in your case.

100C is boiling at sea level. So 95c is pretty warm .

Wonder what could have caused it, do you have an automatic shutdown temperature? Might want to do that so that if it gets above...say...72c it just turns itself off.

i have no idea what happened. Didn't seem to have any negative affect. The weird part is that the fans are programmed to kick up to 100% RPMs if the temps go above 50C. So that should of happened. I have no idea. If it happens again I will do some tests to determine the problem. For now I will just keep my eyes open and hope it was a one time thing. I'll be lapping and reseating my CPu and heatsink in a couple weeks, so we'll see if the TIM got burnt at all.

Seems like you applied too much or too little thermal compound try this method: put a thin line of thermal compound down the middle. See if it works. And um aren't the limit of Q6600 72C?????

some people may not realize this comp has been running already for 3 months with no problems. I didn't just install the heatsink or anything. So sudden impacts on the case, the heatsink is still firmly in place as is evident by the now normal temps.

71 I believe. Which is why I suggested the automatic shutoff at 72.

ya, i might need to program the automatic shut off in. I have never hit 50C even before in benching or gaming, so very weird. must have been a fan thing.
