$120 officedepot.. router?

Thread Starter
I have $120 credit like I said to officedepot.. and I wanted to get some peripherals and I was thinking about a router..

I don't need anything special just so that I will get wireless internet from the ethernet port here in the dorm.

The highest price one I saw for what I would need is this:

http://www.officedepot.com/a/product...igabit-Switch/

but I am thinking that I don't need to spend that much and get a cheaper one + other things like a new keyboard.

Can someone show me a good router from officedepot and I can go out and get it? assuming they have it in the store

That linksys is a fine router... I don't see why you need to spend $100+ on a router.
haha, yea that's a bit much. My buddy and I run 25+ person LANs with that router as the backbone. Aside from that, it'll broadcast across a field/road/and into another house, more than you need for your dorm.

http://www.officedepot.com/a/product...r-With-Switch/

I've set this up at my parents. They run a couple computers between my siblings. Works well. If you wanted better features and felt daring... you could install the DD-WRT 3rd party router firmware.

Take the rest of that money and buy the most comfortable mouse and keyboard you can afford

The Linksys G will suit you just fine. And if you want you can flash it with dd-wrt firmware and make it better. This should leave with $$$ for a keyboard etc...

the thing is that I also have a $40 credit to best buy, yeah go figure I get these things as presents.. stupid giftcards..

anyways, I have 40 to bestbuy and I can get this with it

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1051826245223

I don't really need the firmware.. unless I can also get firmware to work on this router, but to me its not worth it to spend 40 extra to get a router a lil faster

I've heard bad things about netgear and i've seen the layout of the Linksys, Belkin, and D-Link routers. And to be honest, i think that belkin's and D-Link's have the best layout/options. Right now i own a DIR-625 (wireless-n with gigabit switch) and owned a belkin with 125G (regular G with "high speed" mode) and it sadly died on us. I have noticed that with the wireless-n, there has been less internet dropping (was somewhat of a problem with the belkin) and the whole network "seems" faster. The router was only $70, so it was a good deal. And after continued research, I have come to the conclusion that D-link makes really good quality routers, with good feature/price ratios.

Just my $0.02

I have that exact Netgear and it has NEVER given me any problems. The only change I had to make was to change my NAT settings for Xbox Live, but other than that, it is on 24hrs a day, 365 days a year. I reccomend!
