what to max at?

Thread Starter
I have a EVGA GeForce 8600GTS and wanted to overclock it. I run idle at about 55*C. Wondering at what temperature, or what should I overclock too? All settings are factory except Fan speed which I set to always on 100%

use rivatuner and overclock it as far as it will go. So long as your temps stay under 80C or so you're fine but you should have much concern if you aren't doing any kind of voltage mods.

All cards are different, so you're going have to do some trail and error to find out your max overclock.

All you have to do is stay below 80C load (you may push to 85C if you like), and make sure to scan for artifacts for at least 15 minutes for a quick run and 2-4 hours for a full run.

Standard 8600GTS temps

Personally, I'd stop the card when it hits 100*C. It is known that this card runs very hot and an aftermarket cooler is an excellent idea.

As for clocking. I was able to get 875 Core (will GPU Z later for you). But most cards can only get to 740ish

Well for now I only increased each by 5 becuase it was already running hot. I only have the stock fan so I am going to wait until I buy some mroe fans or better cooling before I try anything more.

Well I upped it to 700/1500 and running artifact scan now. I was idling about 60*C and about 2 minutes into the scan I am running at about 75*C

Edit: After 6 minutes the max temp i've gotten in 89*C. Is this normal? Or should I lower it so it stays under 85*C?
