Swiftech H2O 220 Compact question

Thread Starter
I would like to know if the radiator/reservoir on this system can be mounted horizontally (like on the "roof" of my case, but inside) or would that cause problems, since it's also a reservoir?

Thanks,

There's no problem doing that other than I hear it can shorten the lifespan of your fans since the lubricant drops to one side.

Thanks for the reply. That only occurs with sleeve bearing fans. I will not be using the ones that come with the kit.

I believe I saw on the Swiftech form that they recommend mounting those res/rads vertical only. Besides, how will you fill it if it's horizontal?

The only problem will be the radiator fill on reservoir. You well need a t-line or other reservoir to fill the system. The stock setup has the reservoir higher than the CPU water block. So you may want ensure that your new reservoir or rad is higher also.

It will only matter during the intial bleeding of the loop. After that, it doesn't matter.
Once again...

Yeah that will be a problem filling and bleeding if your res isn't vertical...I guess you might be able to cut a t-line into your pumps suction line and fill and bleed it there and not even use the res like a res.....I've never tried that so I don't know if you would really run into any problems or not since the res is built into the rad..I can see where it might...It would just cost a couple of bux to try it though..You could just set it up out of your case and see, I like to pressure test new components out-side the case anyway.....

If its mounted to the underside of the top of the case, the top of the case will need venting to allow the radiator to release its heat buildup, or it won't cool. A T line that can be raised above the rad will work.
