having problems with a p5k

ok i was trying to overclock my buddy's p5k after we switch it out form a 680i. he was a quad, even with a small jump in fsb from 266 to 280 it wouldn't boot, well really it wouldnt boot after entering and exiting the bios while changing nothing. but after quickly clearing the cmos it would boot again. so whats the deal.... can anyone help...

Just a normal P5K?

my cpu is running at 3.7ghz right now and FSB on the board is 529MHZ so i can probably help you

does it overclock even a bit on the 680i? I might be the CPU

oh ya... 3.7ish so far... the only reason it was switched is the 680i has a dead dimm and wont run memory in dual channel
