Prime95 vs OCCT Input for the masses - Page 2

I don't need that long to know if my system is stable. I've been around a long time, well long enough to know when a system is stable and when it's not. Just my two cents, to each his own torture test.
You're right, you should run for a minimum of 12 hours. I run small fft for a minimum of 6 hours to make sure I have no temp issues then I run the blend for a minimum of 6 more. Usually they run longer cause I run them overnight or during the day while I'm at work.
I also much prefer Orthos.
I'm not sure what you mean by set up though for Prime95. Download it and it can run immediately. No set up needed although I always round error checking but you can start that after the test starts.
How long did it take to find this year old thread?
And did you join just to respond to it?
Just wondering.

Well you can run OCCT for a long as Prime95. Both are loops of repeating tests. Both run cpu at 100%. For which one actually tests better, that's going to be completely subjective.

I'd never settle for just 2 hours of OCCT to declare a system stable.
.

I would. While your doing your 8 hours test, I'll do my two hour test and spend the next 6 hours playing some games and enjoying my computer. We will both end up knowing if our system is stable or not.

Got my new system up and running and was doing some searching on OCCT vs Prime95 (since I use OCCT). One of the hits was here. I didn't happen to be a member yet so joined, and then posted. And, my system is stable as a rock and I didn't need to run Prime95 overnight to tell me that. I spent that time doing other things.

Not trying to be a smart ass, the 8 hr/overnight testing thing is just not for me.

I skip the hours and just run a quick 20 minute linpack. Heats my cpu more then primse, finds errors quicker, and is just simple to use. Makes OC`ing easier and more time efficient

Thread Starter
wow...... this thread came from the depths of the archive LOL I must be famous

I run mainly OCCT, unless looking to find out which cores are failing in order to raise GTL voltages...

But I would suggest running it for a good overnight or at work time frame... Even tho I have yet to see a problem after 2hrs in OCCT, its still comforting to know...

I know this thread hasn't seen a post in a while, but I wanted to add my experience in the hope that it will help anyone who runs across it:

I have had overclocks on my system that could withstand 8 hrs OCCT and 1.5 hrs Linpack, but cause a full reboot within 5 minutes of starting a Prime95 blend. No blue screen, just reboot. With that said, OCCT has caught some unstable overclocks much sooner than Prime95. It seems that all 3 programs use different methods to stress the processor. I personally check 1.5hrs Linpack, 8 hrs OCCT, and 24hrs Prime95, in that order, to verify long term stability.

Peace

I have had test thats will pass intel burn test occt and prime 95 for hours but couldnt stand a couple min of folding.
So I normally do and hour of each then fold.

I personally don't think 2 hours of OCCT is enough. I have run this 2 hour test before, shut down my computer for the night, and the next morning it wouldn't boot. I think the best way is to mix up your tests, do them both.. OCCT for 2 hours and then when you sleep leave p95 on. It's always better to know your system is fully stable.
