It's stupid, Vista has been out for what? 1 1/2 - 2 years? and they are releasing another one.

Is Vista going to be a Windows ME situation

I guess M$ has admitted defeat with this OS then.

Screw them, if they don't continue to support this OS i'm going Linux! I don't invest good money for a shoddy product.

Creative and M$ should get married.
Well - M$ has made it clear that Windows 7 is NOT to replace Vista.
According from what Ive read over the past couple of months, it seems it goes as following: XP -> Vienna -> Vista
At least - thats what M$ says.

umm not sure what you mean, it should go XP -> Vista -> Vienna. Vienna is the codename for 7. ive been following articles about the 5 pillars of windows 7, theyve talked about optimization for laptops, user experience and some other things. so im not sure what you mean by a new OS not replacing an older one.

Windows 7 is not a major windows release......Microsoft has stated this before, and im sure there's threads on here about that. also with the new Kernel i cant see how anyone could not run windows 7?!?

but seriously, you don't HAVE to upgrade. by the time windows 7 gets here, vista will be just like xp is now.....

Even more interesting is that it has also been shown repeatedly that using Windows Server 2008 as a desktop OS, even when configuring it to look and feel like Vista (i.e. with Aero and all), performance blows the door off of anything Vista can do, rivaling that of XP. This despite Vista and Server 2008 having largely the same code base. This leads many people to think that the DRM in Vista is what's crippling performance, since Server 2008 doesn't have that crap.

Arguing this point at all, especially statements like yours, demonstrates some level of ignorance on what is really going on with the Vista vs. XP debate.
I'm stating from personal experience, when I had Vista on this rig, but with the 6800GS 512Mb AGP, It didn't lag anymore than XP does on it, in fact, XP has lagged more than Vista, the only reason I'm not on Vista now, is because when I had to reinstall Windows due to a power outage when it was updating files, I didn't have my Vista DVD on me.

The first Vista beta was a year and a half before release. The scheduled release was 6 months before the actual release.

http://www.overclock.net/software-ne...d-windows.html

They support a OS for some time after the newer version comes out. I cannot remember but it is around 3 years after the EOL.

This doesn't really make and sense. Microsoft has always offered upgrade licenses.

You know how much trouble Microsoft has for releasing a OS that runs slow on 5 year old computers. What kind of trouble do you think they would get for forcing 64 bit. I could just imagine...

Everyone here is getting way to excited. Like they often do when some strange new post shows up. Here is a thread claiming that Vista will not work on any current monitors. Everyone gets all upset, just like in this thread...
that thread is a huge failure.
