I actually had the same problem.. Vista network is kinda diffrent.. so what I did is on the Vista box the name is Gremlin-PC..

I open up an explorer window on the XP box and in the address box I type in //Gremlin-PC and it pops up with all the shared files on the vista box

i don't think its necessary, but i always put both PCs in the same work group. also you can right click on a folder or drive and share it. then from the other computer do like fatmario said and go to \\\\PCname\\sharename

make sure under vista networking you enable and make sure they're both on the same network

and make sure you go to IE and type: \\\\computername (the id name, keep it small)

My computers are:

\\\\c2d
\\\\x2
\\\\semp

On the Vista system.. in C:\\ make a folder called.. "storage". Once the folder is made, right clock on it and goto sharing.. allow it to be shared.

Than goto the XP system.. open up explorer.. and in the address bar type is //VistaName/storage Vistaname being the name of the vista system.

gremlin, it is \\\\, not //

just to cut down the confusion
