5.1 Audio from my 360 thru my XFI platinum?

Hey guys,
I am running my sbox 360 thru my gateway 2200HD and since that is my computer monitor it only makes sense to run my audio through my computer. So I have an optical cable running from my 360 to my front panel optical connector on my XFI and I can get audio but if I go into my 360 system properties and change it from 2 channel to 5.1 doblby digital I lose sound, not entierly though, just the sound effects like the little swoosh it makes when you change a blade, but to be clear I do get audio if I am playing a game. Any ideas?

I'm sorry but this won;t work for you...at least not yet. Creative disabled their dolby digital decoding after the xtrememusic in their drivers. Maybe if you can find a really old driver and running XP, then you might get it to work but i doubt it. Now, creative relies on software dolby decoding through PowerDVD. As far as i know there is no software that take a live dolby stream from an optical input and then decodes it on the fly, they only do this from a digital file. AC3filter might include a feature like this in the future, but its not guaranteed. You best bet is to send the optical output from your 360 to a 5.1 receiver.

In terms of pc speaker systems, the logitech Z-5500 would be your best choice since it has a built-in dolby digital decoder. It really blows that the X-fi has a the capability of doing this, but creative decided to disable it in their drivers over time.

you can try it out, I know someone in the creative forums had figures out how to get it back but this was on older drivers, and 32-bit. This never worked for me because i'm running vista x64 and the older 64-bit drivers had way too many issues.
