Removing fans for less noise, which ones?

Thread Starter
- 120mm exhaust in the back
- 92mm exhausting out the side above the CPU
- 2x80mm intake on the front
- 1x80mm intake on the side blowing onto my graphics

I don't play any PC games anymore so I don't think I need this much cooling. My GPUs should be fine with the Zalman VF900cu's.

Should I just ditch everything except the 120mm exhaust?

I want low noise so I can record music without picking up a huge amount of retarded noise like there is now.

Just lower your fan speeds to around 800RPMs (for the 120mm) and like 1200RPMs for the others.

I can't really. The only fan hooked up to my mobo is the 93mm. All the rest are ****ty 4 prong things going straight to the PSU.

Unless I'm a dumbass and there is a way.

I found that lowering to 75% will cut the noise a lot but still move plenty of air. otherwise, take out one of the two 80mm intakes. you really dont need and intake fan becasue the exhaust fans will pull in air

You can convert the 4-pin plugs to three pin (two used). ...or just get new fans. I'll be giving some 120mm fans away later today.

Depends on the fan. Some will still make a lot of noise. Some will click. Some are quiet at 20%.

Well I just took out the 3 80mm and the 92mm. It's SO QUIET!!
I don't feel like I'm at an airport anymore.

I'm gonna monitor my temps. Hopefully all goes well. The summer may prove to be a problem though.

yeah, 80mm and 92 mm are loud because they have to spin faster to push more cfm, 120mm+ fans can do it slower while pushing more

I can hear myself think. It's weird.

You could always pick up some 4-pin to 3-pin converters so you can stick them into your mobo.

Or you could get a fan controller, but thats a bit much.

For under 5 bucks you can get a little Zalman fan controller that works on one fan. Works good on CPU fans to quickly manually lower it when your recording and then turn it back up once your done.
