Thermaltake ND-1 : Anyone removed theres?

Thread Starter
I'm wanting to transfer my Thermaltake ND-1 from my old 7900GT to my new 8800GT but am not sure if the thermal pads (for memory IC's) will come off easily or not.

If not, then I'll most likely just leave the ND-1 on the 7900GT and sell them as a bundle and just get a new ND-1.

Anyone removed their ND-1? Do the thermal pads come off easy?

I do not have one and never removed the thermal pads from this particular cooler. However, after reading up about it, I can tell you that it shouldn't be too hard. What you want to do is make sure the card is warm before removal. That will make them come off alot easier and then just wipe the chips real clean with some isopropyl alcohol. Alternatively you can use Arctic Clean, which I have had very good results with.

I think you have a good idea on your hand. Heat your graphics card up (by playing some games of course ) before you attempt to remove it. It should help loosen the thermal paste and the pads a bit. Make sure you buy some Arctic Clean as Ive herd they are godly on thermal pads. Also, make sure you buy some new thermal pads to replace what you have now.

Well I did it last night and found (as I sort of remembered) that the ND-1 uses some non adhering pads that seem to be made of a sort of fibrous material which is impregnated with a light liquid of some kind ....

Sounds wierd, I know, but that's what they are.

They peeled off like gravy and went right over the IC's on my new 8800GT. No probs.
