boot.ini horror. help plz :(

post #1 of 2
Thread Starter
i reformated the other day. placing my new windows partition on F:\\

however. some "boot files" was on C:\\ when i deleted these i failed to boot.. reformated on C:\\ to access the drives to try and repair the problem. however i cannot figure out the configuration for boot.ini for "hard drive 2, partition 2" in boot.ini

what i have now is:

Quote:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(3)WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS="Micros oft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /noexecute
ive tried multiple things. but i am totally clueless. google and Overclock.net search have not helped.

can anyone assist me by telling me the proper information for my boot.ini? i am running windows xp pro.

edit: fixed it. weird way though!

took the fresh boot.ini from new xp install on drive 1 partition 1

edited it to partition 2. placed it on first partition of drive 2.

removed drive 1. put drive 2 in that port. booted fine.

still dunno if putting drive 1 in drive 2 spot will let me boot to format that baby or what?

Yes, very basackwards.

Boot into Recovery Console.
Run bootcfg. (bootcfg /? for a description of what it can do and how to do it.)
It will rebuild your boot.ini file for you.
Just have the drives where you want them to end up.
