How long have you had it? Also what model?

I had the ES edition... I never got the eSATA to work on it... =\\
Mine also ran extremely hot. The enclosure it was in was very hot to the touch.

I have had the 250g version for about 3 yrs now and have used to many times and it still works just fine. Ofcourese I cant update the drivers for vista because the mybook I have is no longer supported. Still works to store info on just fine. One of these days Ill format it and isntall my own software maybe.

Anyways it still works just fine.

I don't trust them when they rave about the products.

But taking trash about a product is different. You'll notice that even mediocre products on Newegg get good reviews. When products on Newegg get bad reviews like this one, then it truly is garbage. If a product died on a customer after 1 -2 years (or even sooner).. that is not an opinion... that is just fact.

When you have close to 25% of the reviews getting 1-2 eggs... that it truly is bad.

You having a good drive and me having a bad one doesn't necessarily mean anything. There were some good Ford Pintos that had no problems...

Just saying..... if you're data's not important, get this one. If you do care about your date, pay the extra 50 bucks and be secure with a better drive....

BTW, I'm no fanboy when it comes to drives. Just get the one with the longest warranty. There's a 1 year warranty on this drive and most of the people on Newegg had drives fail after 1 year... buyer beware.

BTW, we are talking about the essential edition mybooks.

Not the more expensive mybook models.

Oh and a heads up, according to the slickdeals discussion on this, this has a EIDE drive inside, not a SATA, which may be the deciding factor for me.
It's not really a deal, I picked this up months ago and it was never advertised and I don't know if it was on the website. I don't think any more Circuit City's have this, I just happened to be looking at some tags one night and noticed a $38 price tag in the HDD section, it was an impulse buy

You don't have to be an overclocker to know if a HDD is working or not...

Understood, I jsut dont base much on there reviews, I think he had a point about the negative ones but I have scene many reviews in a row with someone that doesnt even own the product or rates there knowedge as high and isnt even talking about the product they are reviewing.

Yeah, I think lots of the reviewers are laughable. However, it's easy to see a trend if a product is just plain no good.

If the product is getting many negative ratings, there are two main possibilities:

1. The product is difficult to use for most people (and they couldn't figure it out)
2. The product is plainly no good (the more likely scenario)

That's all I'm saying. I wouldn't put all my trust in the reviews either.

God thats a good deal. I just bought an external HDD case (No HDD) for one of my 160GB drives and it cost me 25$. I could have just got this or a 250GB drive.
