Gaming at full res in 30": Dual, Tri or Quad SLi?

Thread Starter
Im planning on gaming in full res once my monitor gets here in may. Now im thinking of investing in Gfx cards. My question is: Dual, tri or quad sli for full res gaming? I dont want overkill. If dual SLi will work fine, i'll go for that. Also if crossfireX works better than SLi, i'm open to that option!

CrossifreX is better as an OPTION but the graphics cards are better with nvidia. You probably want to go for 2 9800GX2s in SLI assuming that you want to run 2560x1600 resolution.
i really don't have any problems doing it with my 9800gx2....i've been running COD4 and TF2 at 2560x1600.

TF2 is averaging 100 frames per second with 4x AA. the lowest the frames drop to are 57 and the high hits about 200. there is an issue i have had though with TF2 on the 9800gx2. occasionally it'll choke and stutter for a second. might be a driver issue, but i'm not sure...still tryin to figure it out

COD4 I ran at 2560x1600 and i averaged 70 frames per second, the low hitting 20 and the highest being 150. this is with 2xAA.....at 1920x1200 i averaged 110 frames, the low hitting 56 and the high hitting 220

i can't do crysis at 2560x1600. i run it at 1920x1200 in DX9 mode with some modified config files to make it look like very high settings. on that i average 40 frames per second. the issue i have with crysis is that it gets bogged down a bit in parts where i'm indoors, bogs down more so than my 8800gtx. outdoor environments it slices right through and looks great.

actually it's the other way around...I remember a few months ago a picture was taken from Crysis using a 2900XT 1GB and an 8800GTX...the picture was zoomed in and focused, it revealed that the 2900XT was displaying a better picture while Nvidia was "cheating" with their drivers to improve performance instead of focusing on quality.

anyways, for hi-res gaming SLI and CF will work well.

I said Crossfire-X was better =S but the nvidia cards have more horsepower. I hate SLI in that it is too driver dependent.

Lol, you say this like its news. Hehe

And Crossfire scales remarkably well in multi GPU solutions.

Personally I would go ATI. try the 3870 x 2 in crossfire. I like my 8800's but my sons computer with the 3870 has way better picture quality. My next cards will be ATI. But thats not atleast untill the next, next, gen.

What?! I didn't know that. Its too bad our anouncers are retarded. The old dude kept making awkward comments that would trail off into silence.

Grant Hill had a great game though
