3870x2 vs 8800gts (g92)

Thread Starter
Which is better for the long run, the nvidia 8800gts(g92) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814143119 for about $250 or the ati radeon 3870x2 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102723 for about $400. I'm looking to make a long term investment so i don't have to upgrade for a few years, $400 is the most I will pay but I'm open to any alternatives and I'm open to different cards as well. let me know what you think
thanks

P.S. I plan on playing between 1680x1050 and 1920x1200 resolution

IMO, ATI and NV will push graphics performance to new heights in their ongoing battle, and no card you can purchase today or in the next couple months before the 4xxx series from ATI will have longevity beyond a year.

In deed! at the resolution go with the X2. However, buy for now, not for later. Prolonging your purchase in efforts to get something that will last over a few generations will just leave you in an endless loop of thumb twiddling.

It seems 3870x2 is the way to go. On another note, it is nothing wrong to plan to upgrade for 2/3 yrs but may be not a good idea. Tech stuff depreciates so quickly. Two years ago, I used 7900GT and 17" LCD. Two year later, it is about the same price, I got myself 8800GT and 22" LCD so just find the balance between performance and price, buy 8800GT or G92 8800GTS and stick with it for 12 months.
