Spot on, this is the only way to reliably remove this virus hoax, but you must run the tool in safe mode.

Limewire isn't bad. It is the stuff you download with it that is. All limewire is is a file sharing program. you get virii with it due to the amazing amount of malware that is uploaded there. If you like file sharing, use torrents. They (the good ones, anyways) havd ratings and comments so you know whether they are fake or not.

still can't get rid of this crap. I have tried everything. The files that get deleted pop back up within seconds. Am I going to have to reload windows?

I would run hijackthis and see if anyone can help with the log. It is a very powerful tool and will pick up things that should not be removed along with malicious files. If you run it in safe mode and post the log, someone may be able to help you pick out what needs to be removed,

The only sure fire way to get rid of it is a reformat with a re-install of windows.

first things first, turn off system restore.

boot into safe mode, run smitfraud fix

after that run hijack this.

after that download avg's anti-root and run it ( just to make sure)

after that download and run cwshredder

THEN run: spybot, and adaware.

THEN...after all of this you have to EMPTY your trash bin

I am pretty sure after all that then you can proceed to run normally...if not you will have to search my username for posts about 3-5 months ago.

I ran into that situation on a customer's laptop.

Windows security programs are the fail BTW

oh yeah...if everything is golden, turn system restore back on and make a restore point. MAKE SURE everything is clean before you do it

edit: and finally after you are done tell your wife NEVER to touch your computer again and to get you a beer LOL

Thanks for all the help I got for this. What ended up fixing it was Norton Antibot. I downloaded the trial copy. Rep+ for all those that helped.

Wow, unlucky man.

I had this a few years ago. Unfortunately back then there was no program that removed it, i had to do a full re-install!

Glad it didn't come to that.
