I've heard others make that claim too...it's silly really. Because if there's no one else to market a console to, explain why the DS, Wii, PS2 and PSP sell like hotcakes month after month after month. There's always a market. Claims like yours make it seem that everyone in the world who wants a 360 already has one. The 360 has sold just under 18 million units, compared to nearly 70 million DS's, 32.5 mill PSPs, 23+ million Wii's, and god knows how many PS2s. It's safe to say that not everyone who would potentially buy a 360 has one yet.

i for one will never buy a ps3 or blu-ray because i simply hate sony products.
the camcorder i bought from sony shipped to me DOA and customer service blamed it on shipping even though the box was in perfect condition. as for the ps2 i bought, it died in a month of hardly playing it, and sony didn't acknowledge the warranty.
long story short, ive had a hard time with sony and i dont trust anything they make anymore, and blu-ray is way to expensive

Over 100 million PS2s sold at the date of that article, and its dated 2006.

Everyone has varying experiences with different consumer electronics I guess. I've had quite the opposite luck. I've been buying Sony products for years and years. Only thing that ever crapped out on me was a Sony CD deck for my car. Everything else from playstations, discmans, walkmans, dvd players, tv's and so on and so forth has never gone bad.

It's hard not to like sony when everything you buy works out just fine. I can understand your frustration though.

Come back to us when the 360 hits the 120 million mark, because that's the number of PS2's shipped thus far.

The PS3 sold more in its first year than the 360 did in its own first year. It did it while competing with the Wii and 360 (360 had a year alone and Wii was a smash hit) AND being the most expensive console by $200 AND including a high-definition format whose continued relevance was in question until just months ago. That is one good position they have forged for themselves, and no one can deny that there are better things coming. 2008 will be the year of the PS3.

Your wrong. Its called Market Saturation, nearly everyone that is willing to pay $350 for an Xbox 360 has already done so. Once this happen, a price drop ensues and sales skyrocket because theres a different market willing to pay $300 or whatever lower price for an Xbox 360 would be.

Look at the PS3 as a prime example. People weren't willing to pay $600 for PS3 or ANY console. Now that its MSRP is down approximately $200, sales have doubled month-to-month on a world-wide basis from this time last year. ElMikeTheMike makes a good point as well.

As another example, the PS2 accumulated most of its 130+mln sales after it reached a certain MSRP, that being $199.

It only sold 30mln units out of 130mln currently before the price drop to $199 from $299.Link
