system freezes every second or so...?

Thread Starter
Hey guys,
I just noticed something really annoying that my system is doing... it just started happening.
Every second or so, the whole system will freeze for about a half second. Like, if I move my mouse in a circle it will stop moving every second and reappear in a half a second. Everything, even the smilies on the sidebar as I'm writing this message, are freezing every second. It seems the whole system is halting every second.
What's going on!??

You know the quiet grinding noise some computers make when they are loading something? yeah, instead of a constant grind, it goes GRIND, stop. GRIND, stop. exactly in sync with the entire system freezing

check your CPU usage % and post back.

that's really weird, check your task manager for processing running and start there. Maybe you have a rouge process gobbling up system resources. I would also run CCleaner and do a defrag.

Anywhere from 22-25, but I'm running a Backup Utility that's restoring files to a folder in the background. Though before this problem, I had the same exact things running and it was at 5% or less.

Well the utility is still running, and the freezing decided to stop as I was typing up a word document. I now even have disk cleanup running in addition to the utility and it's running smoothly.

I've actually had that with 100% use of one CPU core but in the processes list there is no apparent culprit. It's randomly happened about 3 times over 1.5 years, and I've never been able to figure out what it is. A reboot solves it for me, but I sure would like to track it down.

Yeah i forgot to mention that it's happened a couple times over the past few years. I would also know what could be causing this problem. I noticed we have the same exact CPU... perhaps it could be a problem with that specific CPU.
