I'm somewhat concerned about these "forbidden" mods. Needless to say, I'd like to think that after last weekend's shenanigans people will have wised up a little more about Creative and realise that they aren't exactly the first choice when it comes to audio cards. I suspect that the Auzentech Prelude only offers such good performance under Vista as it's up to Auzentech as to whether they limit any of the features in Creative's drivers or not.

Whats done is done creative, you cant take back what you have done.
They're royally screwed now.

If they start releasing high-quality cards at half the current price, and prove their drivers are reliable and fully support their product, on all advertised OSes, then I'll consider their products again. Until then, it will be onboard or any other reputable brand.

Well I for one am happy this has turned out okay for Daniel. I think we are constantly hosed by large companies and that they often flout the law ( how much were microsoft and the memory companies recently fined for foul play?) One little guy helps some people out and certain people are bawling him out..... go figure!

Not really man. The VAST multitude of their consumer base doesn't frequent forums enough to know that this even happened, and rightly so.....it was blown WAY out of proportion.

I for one hope that Creative gears itself toward APU manufacturing, selling them through 3rd party vendors like Auzentech and ASUS (like C-Media does). This would be more beneficial to the audio industry.

Furthermore, I think this decision of Creative makes them a bunch of wimps. Yeah, a lot of people are going to be happy, but it's only going to teach other programmers that they might be able to get away with stuff they were previously afraid to try.

Sigh. Creative has no real men working for them.
Finally someone who argues both side. Legally, Creative was right, they own their products and software as far as I know, making even a cent out of someone's software is a copyright violation. And in no way I'm giving away or breaking my ExtremeMusic in half, it works great, I do not have any issues under Vista, end of the story. And people going back to onboard just not to go with Creative, that's just stupid. Imagine that one day, Intel and AMD had a similiar problem, so what, you would go with VIA? Performance FTW!
