Foxconn Mars - HELP PLEASE!

Thread Starter
Okay lets start.

This is my first computer build so there might be some issues I'm personally not aware of or something, but I'm quite confident in my ability to at least put a computer together.

My Foxconn Mars has been giving me headaches from the get go, and its the same issue, making things unbearable. After receiving a new graphics card as my eVGA was DOA, I slotted in the new BFG and booted up. All was good, post beep was audible, no warning lights and the motherboard detected the RAM , CPU, Disc drive and HDD's.

I continued on into the BIOS where i changed the the SATA mode to RAID for my raid array, also I dialled in the RAM timings and its voltage.

Well here's my issue. After pressing F10 to Save & Exit, the computer instantly crashes, turning on and off, on and off sometimes up to 10 times. Then the Infinity Cool Guard feature kicks in finally after the motherboard has turned off. Five seconds later I'm left with a computer which has decided to shut down on me and the monitor light flashing.

When I rebooted, a message on the POST screen reads "CMOS Checksum error - Defaults loaded." I looked around the web and found out this might be to do with faulty CMOS battery or the BIOS time is not set correctly, so I got a new CR2032 Lithium battery from my local store and replaced the old one, also I changed the BIOS time. This still did not resolve the issue of the computer crashing, also the same error message appeared at POST.

I'm not sure at all what is going on here. It seems it is not able to save the CMOS settings to the ROM?? But this is odd as I have successfully flashed the BIOS to version F12....

I will be much appreciative to any help you guys are able to give me

Thanks in advance.

LOl. I was lucky getting my Q9450 so early.

About your query, I have installed windows 3 times because of continuous reformats to solve my problem and on all occasions I was able to boot into windows. The only things i got around to do were loading some drivers from the Foxconn CD to get the LAN controller working and the graphics and sound card drivers. I can confirm that my sound card also works including the new BFG card i received.

Just a little bit more info on the crashes. When the computer goes into one of its crashing loops the whole computer turns on like it was posting, as all the fans spin up to max, then off again then max. Also the red LED for the Dram power turns on and off, on and off but the +5V blue standby LED stays on throughout.

Thanks for your input

I don't think this is the case, as i have tried many different settings, including Seek for Floppy, enabled and disabled. Changing the RAM timings and voltage to its factory settings. Inputting the correct ratio for CPU vs RAM. All have been changed separately without any fiddling with any raid settings and it continues to shut down...

Something I might want to add also. I get a glimpse of a fast screen message just before I get into the BIOS, just after hitting the Del key. It says something like "AHCI Bios not installed." I've read the article at WIki about AHCI and its a feature I'm not looking to use, as I want to enable RAID not AHCI, so this is not an issue?

Thanks

sorry man got side tracked. sounds like you got o/clock recover on. it has its uses but also its down sides. mine has a right pain over say 450 - 460 fsb. wont post with my o/c settings till 3 boots in. the blue led stays on all the time. just checked the manuel, that stays on as long as the comp is connected to power. the red ligth will only come on when the system is on. go with the over clock recovery feature. i have a feeling

Woah I'm sorry man, its been very hectic around here.

I got a replacement but I had the same issue. So i called up Misco Tech Support and they said the Foxconn was not compatible with the Q9450 C1 Stepping Even though it states on the box its compatible with Intel Quads inlcuding the new 45nm chips... So no overclocking with the mars I'm afraid.

So looking around I found that other motherboards aren't compatible 'yet' (needs a new bios) with the C1 Q9450. For example the ASUS P5K Premium.

I read that the X38 and X48 are more capable of supporting the Q9450 so I got a refund of the mars and got an ASUS Maximus Formula X38.

It runs very well, only needs a new bios (1004 Beta BIOS) to support the C1 stepping. Unfortunately I have an issue like some others, that I can't change the value of the FSB.... I'm praying a new beta bios or the final will resolve this for me.

Sorry to disappoint you lowkickqop, way things goes sometimes I guess.
