If there's no HDD activity, swap it out and put in another HDD and try. Laptop doesn't beep when you turn it on.
Actually, I was surprised too, because it was ran over with a Lincoln Towncar. Those cars are very heavy, they even have V8's.

I don't have a spare HDD to test with. But like I said a HDD shouldn't stop POST.

A car? Unlikely. It looks more like someone stepped on it or something

The stickers on my Lenovo are still on solely because they're a ***** to get off. I tried.

But yeah, that thing's built like a tank if it was run over with such little damage.

I don't think laptops POST to an external monitor. Have you tried running a live cd on there yet? You might get some luck with that as long as the distro will pick up dual monitors. But as for posting, I don't recall any of my laptops displaying BIOS/POST info to anything but the buildin monitor.

Why would I lie?

I tried Ubuntu 7.04, didn't work. I don't think it even loaded it, because the dvd drive spun up for 20 seconds then just spun down and did nothing.

Thats because Ubuntu has a menu to say boot into live disk. I think its the 2nd option. try pressing down once and enter.

Man, I really think that laptop is more screwed up than you think. You have no idea where there might be microfractures, shorts, etc. I know you took it all apart and inspected everything, but there's only so much inspection the human eye can accomplish....

I would spend as little money as possible trying to get it working if I were you, especially considering the fact that it doesn't seem to be properly starting up.

I know, I've used it before, but it's hard to time it since I don't know how long the POST is and if it's even booting from dvd first.

I'm not spending a cent on it, if I can't get it to work myself, I'm destroying it. If I can get it to work, then I'll buy a new screen for it.

How can I find that out? Hmm maybe I can find the manual online and try to blindly set the bios options..?
