I read somewhere there is going to be an 9800 Ultra. This is probably going to be the one to get, if it does come out ... rumour ... rumour.

8800GTX is very hot and made my S-bridge get 10c hotter (crappy pasive heatsink on Gigabyte DS5 also). I would have to have spent £30 - £40 on an after market cooler for my 8800GTX to get me through this summer, so buying a cooler running 9800GTX is costing me exactly what I would have to spend anyway.

It seems to perform pretty much the same and just slightly better - overall, than my old 8800GTX.

Like someone else said - wait for the complete line-up. I am playing on small res so its ok for now.

I was sort of in the same predicament as you're in. I wanted a card to run 1920x1200 in games. I ended up going with the 8800GTX for 280$ new (EVGA).

The bigger bus and memory does help out at higher resolutions as others have pointed out. The G92 might be faster but I don't see the point in paying a premium for it when it's marginally faster then the G92 GTS.

Omg... At high resolutions the 8800GTX pwns the 9800GTX, just like it does the 8800GTS..

Bceuase it has 768MB ram... Just because somethings newer doesnt means its better.

for that resolution, 8800GTX will probably be best. 9800GTX still has 512MB of VRAM
