You've already got two 8800gtx's, so it makes sense to get one more rather then three new 9800gtx's, unless im missing something

Anything at or below 1920x1200 will not see any benefits from the 8800GTX/Ultras increased memory and bus speed. The 9800GTX would be the clear choice. If you however have one of those 30" screens then yes, you will benefit slightly from the 8800GTX/Ultra.

What amazes me is that everybody will always say that at high resolutions above 1920x1200 more mem and higher bus frequency will be king, but I bet you that 99.9% of all those people don't have a 30" screen and will most likely not have one for quite a while.

If you have the extra money, get the 9800GTX. It has high bin chips and OCs like you would not believe. It is the better card and will outperform a 8800GTX at pretty much anything in the real world, especially OCd.

You're right though they can overclock the crap out of them and just spin their wheels away....

8800GTX 100% for higher res,

The two 8800GTX's are using Q6600's, the 9800GTX trailing them by 1fps is with an E6600.

I used to own a Q6600 for my first play through Crysis, and a quad DOES make a difference in average framerate. Slap a quad in with that 9800GTX and then see who comes out on top.

That said, even though I own a 9800GTX, it is only really good for resolutions 1680x1050 and below. I would go with the 8800 in this case.

Ummm... First of, we all know how well an indicator 3dMarks is for a cards performance. If you only go by 3dMark, ATI would be making some of the best cards right now.

Also, the comparison you provided means nothing since 3dMark is so CPU dependent and the 9800GTX is the only one running on a dual core with the lowest OC.
You would have to run the cards in the same exact system with the same OCs.

Umm that was a Crysis benchmark 1680 x 1050 VERY HIGH SINGLE GPU RESULTS... not 3dMark... I was just trying to point out the ridiculous overclock with nothing to show for it.

The only thing I noticed the 2nd time looking at it; is that he is running a duo not a quad.

You guys are saying the 9800 for a res of 1600 1200 but what about future games that might use more then 512 of vmem then what.Doesnt oblivion with texture mods or stalker with mods use more then 512 at 1600 1200?
