CPU gets hot ans PC shuts down

Thread Starter
So i connected everything together. And the first time I ran it it worked fine.
I started to install Vista on the PC. But as I was looking for the drivers for the SATA drives, the computer shut down after +/- 10 min.

I restarted it, and it showed a message that the CPU is to hot.

I checked the CPU fan connection to the board. That was fine
Rechecked the connection of the heatsink to the CPU. It looks fine.

Does anyone have any help. I havent retried it after I reconnnected the heatsink, so i dont know if itll make a diff. I dont believe so.

Anything else that can be wrong.

You have to remove the heatsink and reapply thermal paste.

Make sure the HSF is sufficient for cooling the CPU. Also make sure your ambient temps aren't too high.

It's probably not seated on the CPU correctly. Just reseat the heatsink and make sure the pins are in all the way.

I agree. double check make sure it is seating right. every single time I have issues with a GPU or CPU getting too hot the cause is always the same. the heat sink needs to be put back on correct.
if your using the stock cooler I find it is a very tight fit and sometimes it will feel as though everything is snug and in place when really one of the pins isn't on right and so causes a half assed connection. try going through making sure all the pins are set to lock and try pulling on any of them to see if they pull out and the maybe give them all a decent push to make sure they don't have a little further to latch up. when your pushing the pins in you should hear to little clicks when it is fully locked in place.
