[Expreview] 8800GTS 512 OC > 9800GTX - Page 7

All I can say is I'll be happy if I get half my money's worth out of my 8800GT ($270) than people who bought the 8800GTX when it 1st came out.

If the GTX came out in November of 06 then it would be 1 and a half years old.

Well under the 'new' Nvidia naming scheme, the 10000 series should come out 5 weeks after the 13000 series

Yes exactly. Why the 8800GTS 512MB was not a 9 series card I'll never know. You would think if you radically changed the GPU, you would make that a different series.

I've said it before but if I didn't have the 3870x2 in my rig now I would GLADLY dish out the cash for a 9800GTX.

Nvidia really should have stuck to more conventional naming though. I really couldn't care less but there are others that feel like they are trying to be cheated. That's the thing with selling things: always err on the side of caution because unhappy customers, especially those that feel cheated, don't make business better.

Pick just about anything on the Egg and read its negative reviews. My x2 for example, there's a couple 1-egg reviews from customers who are mad because Windows only shows 512MB vram and another handful that are pissed because they can't figure out how to enable Crossfire. Now many of us know why such things would happen but obviously not the folks I'm talking about. ATi should have said "512MB x2" or something to that effect.

In reality, the 9800GTX should have been the 8900GTX or 8950GTX because yes, the jump to 9xxx is a tad misleading.

I think if your gpu was an evga you could use the StepUp program.

Prices for the g92 8800 have gone down 60$ at the store near me in the last month and a half Theyll be cheap soon

I get 13k on 3Dmark 06 on XP SP2 with my GTS 512, and it doesn't even give noticeable increases with OCing. That's on stock, and with my super-crappy E6300.

What are you talking about? The 7900GTX was miles ahead of the 7800GT.
