First attempt, a bit stuck

Thread Starter
Finally decided to give this a go, and I'm following some good guides online and taking it slow. Here is my equipment on my budget build:

Epox EP-MF4Ultra-3 mobo
AMD64 Windsor 2.0GHz CPU
2x2GB OCZ DDR2 800 memory

So I started by lowering my HT multiplier, and turned my memory down. I slowly raised the CPU frequency and got to 260 just fine.

When I raised it to 280 (CPU multiplier x7) the BIOS became corrupt and I had to fix it.

I tried again at 270 (CPU multiplier x8) and it would not post

I have not yet changed the voltages, and I'm a little nervous about this. The CPU voltage is only reading 0.968V. Is it normally this low?

I did try raising the chip voltage from 1.4V to 1.5V in the BIOS, but then it would not post, and I had to move the jumper on my mobo to reset it. So, apparently my chipset does not like the increased voltage.

Any suggestions on how to get over 260 for my HTT? I've read that these AMD 3800+ Windors should go over 300...

I'll give it a go. Is CPU voltage normally .97 for this CPU? I always thought they were about 1.5V.

What you are reading is probably the VID and or the result of speedstepping and halt states

I raised the Vcore by .05 and it became stable at 270 (core temp went up 4*C). Thanks.

What voltage is about the max I'd want to run this processor?

I attached a screen shot during the torture test..Could someone please be kind enough to explain the different temperatures it's recording? Obviously I know the Vcore...but what are those Temp1 and Temp2?

It's still reading a Vcore of only .97 even though I bumped it by .05. I can't find any power saving features in my BIOS...there were a couple, but they were disabled....many of my BIOS options are confusing to me.

I raised Vcore to +2.0V and got HTT to 290. When I went for 300 I got a corrupt BIOS, and after reflashing, I got a checksum error. It restored to default values.

Now, even if I go back to HTT of 260 (which I got to work with auto voltage), it comes back with a corrupt BIOS and makes me flash it, or the checksum error. It will only run stock now.

Time to remove the jumper?

Sorry for all the questions...I only learn by doing

That was a typo on my part. It was .2V as recommended up above.

Whoops!

Resetting the jumper didn't seem to work.

I get the checksum error, press F1 to continue
Boots into Windows with default settings
reboot and enter bios
change the parameters to a proven setting
Save and exit
checksum error
Press F1 to continue
Boots into windows with default settings.

Rinse and repeat.

Damn, you are too fast...I was hoping to edit my response before anyone saw it.

Resetting the jumper worked.

I don't know about the volts. As you can see from my attachment above, the Vcore reads .97 no matter what I change the value in the BIOS.

When I had the CPU Freq to 290 I had the BIOS CPU Voltage set to (+.2V). But in CPU-Z I see no increase...

I'm really sorry if I sound like an idiot in here. I'm embarrassing really. If anyone can instant message with me sometime that might help. I understand the principles of OCing, it's the BIOS screen and terminology that are throwing me off (and the fact that the core voltage isn't changing in CPU-Z even though I'm increasing it in the BIOS).
