E8400 @Stock...Madness - Page 5

Thats gotta be the most classic response of an uneducated non overclocker, the vision of your computer just exploding, bits flying everywhere, the aftermath - heatsink melted to the board, burn marks everywhere

Also...

More fun

I'm happy with my 3GHz, indeed it was the main reason i went for my E8400 ratehr than the Q6600, 3Ghz straight out of the box.

High end hardware overclocking is not worth it because the value for money you get diminishes significantly.

Ahh

Good times aye?

Oh, and btw

The person who said THIS...

Quote:
but whenever a PC is returned to a retailers like Dell for repair with part of the processor's heatsink melted onto the system board, water damage all over the inside of the case, the chassis fan blown out due to it being run at too high a voltage, etc. it doesn't take a particularly high level support tech to work out what the real problem was.

It kind of sounded like they were just saying to downclock a factory overclocked card. That to me is ludicrous as well, but I don't think they meant to make it perform worse than a normal card. Also, factory overclocks aren't even in the same ballpark as what most people here would consider a good overclock, so I don't know why they're worried about it.

HauntSheep, you realize that all this time you really had no clue what the hell you were talking about and are just sounding like a complete idiot? You \\'re no overclocking expert either, by just pushing it on to people who dont want it.

And many of these users said that they dont run taxing programs, if your computer isnt maxed out then there ISNT a reason to overclock. Unless Firefox, winamp, and TF2 start to make Core 2's sweat these days .

About choosing a E8400 over a Q6600 for the 3 Ghz you posted previously, the E8400 is also $20 cheaper and has a slightly faster architecture I think. So for your average consumer, it WOULD be the better choice.

It's time to gather up the rest of your wounded pride and stay off the internets for while.

He thinks overclocking is just about putting more voltages throughout the entire computer...lol
How did the water get in there?

lol 5Cheese, i was like eh?

A Q6600 would be better than the E8400 even if your not using quadcore apps, as you can assign cores to specific programs, so i can put my main programs to use cores 3-4 and the rest will auto use 1-2 which will give an advantage over the E8400

Dude you are totally bashing on people in a CoH forum, not an overclocking forum. I'm pretty sure they want to play CoH not overclock their computers. Give it a break already.

HauntSheep, how old are you? You seem really immature. They are on a COH forum asking for help about a game related problem. They are not asking how to overclock. Just let them be. You are really making an a$$ out of yourself on those forums and you are coming off like a noob on these forums. Just let it go!

Overclocking is the process of forcing a computer component to run at a higher clock rate than it was designed for or was designated by the manufacturer.

So in theory ... making a fan go faster is an OC.

And by increasing fan speeds the components become cooler ... another part of overclocking is cooling.

Edit: just for your lack of knowledge ... underclocking is a very common practice. If you have never done that then you have no right to complain.
