Antec 900 front speaker jack background noise

Thread Starter
When I plug in my headphones into the front audio jack for my Antec 900 case, I get a faint buzzing and/or humming sound. I've tried differet headsets and the background noise persists.

The background noise does not exist when using the motherboard's (Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P) rear speaker jack.

I found posts on other boards where people had the same problem - each had a Gigabyte motherboard. I am using the onboard sound. One person installed a sound card thinking it would stop the background noise; it did not.

Anyone else experienced this problem? Any fix?

Maybe Magnetic Interference? Maybe your hard drive is sitting to close to the jack? Or your sub to your speakers?

When electronics hum, it's because they don't know the words! ROTFL

I have a similar issue with an antec 900 case and the onboard sound on my mobo, and I'm pretty sure it's interference from the other parts in the computer. If I listen closely, aside from the background hum, the buzzing gets worse with on screen activity, or disk activity. If I maximise a window say, there is a buzz which lasts exactly as long as it takes for the window maximise animation to complete. Likewise if I copy a file. My brief google suggests the problem is with the unshielded cable being used to connect the front-panel to the sound chip.

You might be able to reduce the problem if you can rearrange the cable to run further away from your graphics card, PSU and disk drives. Failing that, I guess we need shielded cables, but christ knows where you can get those - if you find out, let me know!
