Another "Which Case?"

Thread Starter
Okay, I know there are dozens of these on this forum, but I figured I'd throw my lot in.

Okay, so I recently modded my Antec 900 to get it even ALMOST to the point of where I'm sort of satisfied with it. But thats a lie, I'm not even almost. Every time I have to get the motherboard out, it seems like I'm pulling teeth. I cut myself at least 5 times everytime I pull the bastard out.

So I've decided to man up and go for the new case upgrade. Money isn't too much of a big deal (not going to spend 400$ on a new case, or I'd buy the P80/P190.)

I've got some cash coming in (pay checks and for sale stuff) so I figured lets just get the final upgrades I'm going to be doing to this computer (I swear) done and just be happy with it.

I would like full tower, but at the same time, I have an idea for a mid tower that I would be happy with, but I'll get to that later.

I would kind of like toolless design as well. I've got so many damn screws in my computer box' its not even funny. I could stock a small computer shop's screw section. Easily.

Removable motherboard tray. This is almost a MUST. I'm tired of getting to experience the pleasure of assembling my computer in a 1"x1" space, and it would make leak testing a little easier as well.

I'm not too concerned about any side windows at this point. Any side window I decide I may want, I can do myself. And I'm not too crazy about the flashy lights and **** anyway. My computer is hidden under a tabletop anyway, and I turn it off at night-because its too bright- anyway.

With that said, I have come up with a few ideas. One of which is seriously making me twitchy, I really like this case, but I'd still like your opinions. So I'll start off with that case:
  • Thermaltake Armor+ - Keep hearing excellent things about these cases. I was never a huge fan of the TT Armor, but this one is really growing on me. Its got tons of room, toolless design, and its sexy. This is, in my opinion, a tough case to beat. - $199.99

  • Lian Li PC-A70B - Another Lian Li case. I've always wanted a Lian Li case. The practicality and looks are to me just superb. The case has all the things I want, and is a quality looking build. Basically a good case in my book. - $249.99

Well there is my list. If I missed any OBVIOUS super cases, please tell me. I'd appreciate pros/cons of any case suggested. But my 2 cases that I am liking above the rest are the 2 Lian Li cases. So persuade me otherwise.

Thanks~

Given your rhetoric on the cosmetics of the above cases, its difficult to get a finger on your "style". If you don't like the looks of the Coolermaster, I have trouble understanding how you find the Armor "sexy". They seem analogous in many ways to my eye.

<shrug>

Based on your needs, the Lian Li PC-A70B seems like a no-brainer to me. The P60 is really just Lian Li's answer to the 900.

Hehehe I like this thread. Similar to mine as many know In my opinion the stacker and lian li armorsuit have very similar interiors. If it was down to those two though, I'd take the stacker. Pics:

#2

Looks nice and roomy. I want one.

Edit: If it was between any of those cases and price was not an issue like you said, I'd get the stacker 830. So many damn nice features on it. And just look at the pics I posted! Well they sway me anyway.

Edit 2: If you want good price for that TT Armor +, here it is: Thermaltake Armor + - $99 after Rebate

I've gotten my hands on the Stacker 830 though, and it feels kind of cheap. Lots of unneccessary plastic. Lots of mesh too. The mesh side doesn't do a ton for me. I like the case, but its just not quite my favorite. In my opinion.

In reality its between the 2 lian li's and the armor+. The P182 is a little too plain for me.

The A70B seems like a nice canvas for modding however.

Interesting. I've heard the same thing about the thermal take armor +. Too much plastic that is. I don't know about the lian li cases personally they look meh to me. p182 is ok. I've heard its hard to work with. As for the stacker 830 and thermal take armor +, removable motherboard tray and the fact that they are full towers is a plus. Comes down to looks though. I've read threads on the armor + though well people have had troubles with large heat sink installation because they nick that power supply bar. As for the stacker 830, that problem doesn't seem to exist.

Curious though, wheres the unnecessary plastic on the stacker 830?

I don't like the fan rack on the side. I know its removable. The metal (front bezel door) feels kind of cheap too. I've heard people say they have trouble with the side panels as well. Doors rattling, doors hard to get back on, etc.

As the talking head says, its an excellent case, I just think I'm going to be going with something different.

I might add another case to the selection, and remove one or 2 as well.

yea I've heard that as well. But I've also heard bad remarks about almost every case I mention. Best way to know what case really to get is to post this on a lot of different forums. It's what I do. For example: P182 wins over here hands down. On xtremesystems Stacker almost tripled the votes that the p182 got.

lol, lol. And more lol. Feels cheap? Perhaps with the 830's idk, the 832 which I have the front door is one solid piece. Doors are hard to get back on?! You mean side panels? Place it down slide it over click goes the clip. Easiest side panels to take off and put on I've ever seen. Do it right, which ain't hard, like.. At all. And I guess they won't rattle, I know mine doesn't.

That list does not look complete without either the Silverstone Temjin TJ07 or TJ09 (I don't like the TJ10). You might also want to check out the PC-V2010 from Lian-Li when it comes out.
