[Guardian] Xbox 360 chief rings the changes after failures

Thread Starter
Apologies if this is a repost:

"Neil Thompson has just one word to describe what it felt like when he first experienced the Xbox 360's so-called red ring of death (RROD): "disappointing".

That's an understatement. The trio of flashing red lights that gives the fault its name is an ominous sign telling gamers that their console has suffered a complete breakdown. And it's plagued thousands of Xbox owners since the problems first started making headlines a year ago.

All this pain has been particularly acute for Thompson because he's not just any ordinary punter, but a senior director at Microsoft and the man responsible for Xbox in the UK."

Yeah thats how I and about 100000000000000 other people feel lol. I felt even more bummed when I got my elite and it RROD on the 1st time out of the box rofl. I coulda smashed it seriously.

I had a old school Xbox red-ring right out of the box.

So long as MSoft is taking care of the people with the RROD in a somewhat timely manner (which I hear they have been) then I don't think there is a huge problem. That's the way hardware is these days. Some works, some doesn't, some does then doesn't.

I certainly don't have that expectation of anything when I buy it. Especially if costs a few hundred dollars. If I spend that much on a piece of hardware, it damn well better work. And it better work for as long as I own it. There is no other option.

I don't think you've ever said anything I could agree with more than this.

a console should be a real plug & play machine. you could drop a SNES from your shelf and itd be fine. Yet simply turning on 1 in 5 360's will show you a RROD or something like that. What went wrong?

motherboard issue with overheating
My Xbox got the RRoD in December, it wasn't in a spot to overheat either but was a 2005-06 version and was being used for a year so I could understand. When I got my Xbox back it still had the RRoD! I got my 6 month warranty and a free 1 month card for XBL but no working console. This week I got my Xbox again, still the same Xbox. This time it turned on but then froze at the updates and...RRoD. So now I have 3x 1 month cards of XBL and a warranty lasting for a year. I called and complained extra this time demanding a 2007+ model and even joked and said or one of the black consoles...like the Elite or PS3 (hehe). The guy was nice though and shipped me a coffin overnight via Fedex.

The wait begins...again.

Same thing happened to my bro. First time he turned it on, bottom right red light and an E74 error. He got it back a few days ago, luckily no errors/red lights... yet.
