OC'ing stability w/ Linux

Is Linux more tolerant of OC'ing than Windows? I just kinda threw an OC together on another computer, and it's doing just fine... was kinda surprised!

I don't see what difference it makes. I thought if you're stable, you're stable, and it shouldn't matter what software you're using.

I guess maybe windows is more resource-hungry and would therefore be more intensive on the computer, ergo there's a better possibility for the CPU to be caught unstable.

I would think that the software shouldn't matter much, still.

Yea, Linux seems to be a little more tolerant of system stability than Windows. Vista is real picky. However, if it is bad, Linux will lock up in my experience.

I've found Debian Lenny to be less tolerant of instability than XP is - SMP would cause lockups on Debian that never happened on Windows with the same WUs. (Of course using F@H as my stability test)

Interesting. Same OC? I mainly used Fedora. Actually, one version of Fedora hated my OC, while Windows was fine with it. It would lock up in no time. The version before and after worked fine though. Found that strange.

I really think it is. I OC'd in windows for a while, and after a while, I came to the conclusion that I had broken my processor, either given it to many volts or pushed it to high. My games started taking 5+ minutes to load a map (CS:S) and sometimes 10+. They also skipped an incredible amount after joining a server for about 5 minutes straight, getting only about 11fps.

Even running stability tests at stock settings it would fail relatively quickly.

After switching to Linux, I got accustomed to it's new style of OS and how to run things. I eventually got wine configured and got CS:S up and running. Maps loaded quickly, I had no lag issues, either. Surprisingly I get 50+fps using wine constantly in CS:S on a 7600GT. I've got it OC'd 200Mhz right now, 2400-2600 on a Manchester core. It also seems to be 100% stable. It's amazing. I love everything about Linux.
