If thermal paste is the issue it's almost always too much not too little. You only want to fill the microscopic voids between HSF(Heat Sink Fan) and CPU as long as both are relatively flat.
How did you apply it and how much did you use?

yeah, you should be around 30-34 at idle. like mentioned, i would reapply the thermal compound.

what does bios report temperature wise? what is your vcore?

in bios? my bios reports 17º, but real temp and lm-sensors report 30-31ºC. real temp and lm-sensor use reverse calculating from DTS, which seems to work better than the diode reading.

I think you made a typo here... a 65c room temp? Are you in the middle of the Sarhara or something

With air cooling I believe you can only do just a bit above room temp at the best conditions.

Get a few utils to gether that do temp reporting and compare the differences. Make sure you get the very latest versions (beta if possible).

Yeah, I meant 65F, not Celsius. Both Everest and HW Monitor are reading my CPU @ 21C mostly (dips down to 20C, highest is 25C)> These are idle temps. My room thermometer currently reads 67F. Don;t know what to say, I think 21C is a little higher than the room temp. I guess I just did a good job with the AS5 and Heatsink.
