Many who use the line method end up making the line too fat and put on too much.
I advocate the small rice sized dot in the middle instead.It's a lot more likely to get just the right amount.

I use OCZ freeze, and about the size of a piece of rice right in the middle.

Also have someone help you put that monster back on the board to keep it in one place while you put the first 2 screws in.
My first mistake was trying to do it myself, and the true slid all over the place.

Its as big as a brick

I finally had a few minutes to fix this. I reapplied Shin-Etsu using the rice-grain method and then I turned the TRUE vertical. Obviously my horizontal experiment wasn't working out.

Anyway...that fixed the large disparity between cores. Core 0 still runs hotter than core 3 and core 3 is still cooler than all of them but now there is only tending to be 3 to 4 degrees difference between 0 and 3 so now all is normal.

I will lap down the road but I don't have the time these days.
