crappy crysis performance? - Page 5

Yup its the cpu
GFEAD I got respect for ya man, but I'm not sure you're making a fair comparison here brother. You are comparing performance on

1,296,000 (1440x900) Pixels
vs
2,304,000 (1920x1200) Pixels

That's 78% MORE work his gfx cards are doing, amigo. If you're getting 50fps, he *should* be getting around 30fps, all other things being equal.

Nope, it's the GPU(s), the game, and the settings.

If it was a CPU limitation, when he switched to Very High, his FPS WOULD NOT GO DOWN at all, let alone drop to an 'unplayable' level.

If I were a betting man, my money would be on the problem is actually that, on very high, the 512MB of vram on the card is being exceeded. And on "High", his performance at 1920 probably very normal for whatever his GPU clocks are set to...regardless of CPU.

Perhaps as the OP experiments/get a new proc, etc, he'll report back his findings and this'll get settled.

xviosx, what I recommend you do is run the game in dx9. Download and use this custom config. Pretty much it enables the dx10 very high stuff while running dx9. In fact, I think it looks a lot better than very high. There are comparison shots at that link. It isn't nearly as taxing and you still get the blur / sun rays etc. Should be very playable. I avg 60 FPS at 1920x1200.

dx10 murders pretty much any system. There is no need for it.

wow guys its not the cpu

people really overuse the term bottleneck

The day someone comes to me and says "I gotta CPU bottleneck that's making <some game, any game> unplayable (i.e. <30fps) at 1920x1200, DX10, with very high settings ..."

is the day I say "Looks like it may be time to update your Pentium 3 750MHz processor, then, dude".

And then when he says "But it works pretty dang good on High graphics settings ..."

That would be the day that I tell him he's not my friend anymore...

This is strange...

I really do hate to use the term bottleneck but my rig (in sig) can run the game on very high, dx10 with between 20 and 50fps, this is at 1680 * 1050.

I honestly think the CPU cannot feed them cards info fast enough. I say this because in 3dmark06 with SLI, when I OC my cards, i basically see no increase at all. However, when I increase the cpu speed, the points move up.

oK HERES WHAT I FOUND OUT.

I am having the same problems. I called asus and troubleshot all of this.

The original bios of the M2n-SLI-Deluxe is 1302. I like a dumb person decided to flash for the phenom to 1404 bios which is betta. If your not using 1302 bios you have to get it. IF you have a higher bios then that you cant flash it unless you use dos with a floppy which I cant do. Then if that fails you have to RMA the board or have ASUS send you a new bios chip to install.

Before my crysis performance was fly now its like 5% usage and my 3dmark06 scores are only 10k with the phenom @ 2.7ghz
I hope i could help you!

Here, I think this should settle this debate (the one i'm having with myself )

http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/13...sis/index.html

GX2, Vista, Crysis benches at 1600x1200:
Medium: 74fps
High: 41fps
VH: 26fps

Processor(s): Intel Core 2 Quad QX9650 @ 4GHz (400MHz x 10)

Despite this sick proc, we see the following result: it's unplayable at Very High, even at 1600x1200, with a GX2.

What does that tell you about the OP's situation?

I see your logic, and you are exactly RIGHT about the 3dMark06 situation.

The thing you should understand though, is that this is a particular SITUATION you're dealing with, and cpu bottlenecking is 100% situation-dependent.

The lower your image quality settings (which they are very low in 3dmark06), the higher the fps you tend to see, right? And the higher the fps, the harder the processor has to work to keep up. This is just a basic rule of thumb.

Without going into too much detail here, the net effect of this is that it's EXTREMELY rare for a CPU bottleneck to slow a game down to an unplayable level. And if it does, I mean, that means it is WAY WAY behind the times vs. the graphics card. Like, way

Cause pumping out 30fps is just not that hard on practically any modern processor.

And furthermore, *if* a cpu bottleneck is truly in effect, then decreasing the IQ won't bump up your fps at all. That is not what the OP is seeing, that's why I'm so certain its not a CPU bottleneck.

Along with the fact that his proc isn't really crappy enough to not be able to do 30fps in *anything* (as long as he has a 3d graphics accelerator in use, i.e. a 'video card').

Now, if he was saying 'Guys, I'm only getting 100FPS on Crysis at 1024x768 on medium settings, and even if I set it to very high, it stays exactly the same?!?' THEN I would tell him that this situation literally SCREAMS 'CPU-Bottleneck in Full Effect!'.

See what I'm saying?
