Phenom CPU in AM2 Board

Thread Starter
I was just wondering how well a quad or a trip core processor would run in a M2N-E AM2 board, or if i should just go for a AM2+ board? Im working off of a 3800 single core and think its time to hope aboard the mutli-processor wagon .

.... if you're going to get an X3 or X4 CPU, you might just as well spring for the AM2+ board to take full advantage of it.

AM2+ is the only for-sure compatable with the Quads. If you want an am2 board to work....better go to the manufacturers website and make sure they have a BIOS revision that will support the new chips.

Well according to the asus website they said that the M2N-E will support the trip core and the 9500,9600 just i thought i read before that some things on the chip will not be fully accessible. How do the phenoms compare to the dual core?

I know that the 9500, and the 9600 do not kind oc'ers, so i would most likely get the 9550 or the 9650.

And can someone answer whats the real deal for the trip core processor?

I have run my old 9600 quad in a gigabyte 570sli and my MSI 690G, the gigabyte had the latest bios and was fine with the phenom or the X2 I was running. But my msi had an issue you had to update the bios and then immediately run the phenom as it was unstable with the x2 in it. So then I flashed the bios back and put the x2 in. I had no issues with the phenom once it was in, I never benched it as the 690G I have can't overclock so I switched it out the next day into my sig board.

K so the mobo can handle it is there any performance issues with the cpu itself?

Theoretically yes. The faster hypertransport on the AM2+ is supposed to make the Phenoms work a little better, but I haven't seen any real world benchmarks comparing the performance. I'm sure they're out there, maybe some here can point you in the right direction. If not, there's always google. I'm willing to bet the newer Phenoms will benefit more from an AM2+ board than the first generation Phenoms, but this is just speculation.
