What I learned on my 1st Over Clock

1. My Zalman came with a speed control....with it installed and set to full speed my 9500 only spun at 2400rpm....so....removed the speed control and plugged Zalman straight into motherboard CPU Fan connector....now it runs at its rated speed of 2600rpm.
2. Unload Norton AV, or any AVirus and any firewalls before running stress test.
3. Use Orthos Beta 2004 to stress test. Use Everest Ultimate to monitor.
4. the CPU/RAM divider chart needs updated to include the higher freq memories out now. http://www.overclock.net/amd-memory/...-dividers.html
5. The latest Memtest doesnt let you run test 5...it only goes up to 4.
6. Use task manager to turn off all NON windows processes BEFORE stress testing.
7. Get GOOD PSU and CPU cooling....or dont Overclock.
8. Lastly the worst part of OCing is the time you can't use your comp while you running the stress test...
9. BSOD's and Prime or Orthos failures will not harm you comp if you are away from comp......however.....If your comp "hard-locks" (can't move mouse or do anything).....restart comp IMMEDIATELY....unlike Stress test failure or BSOD, when comp hard locks..its STILL running stress test full bore.
If left unattended for too long a hard lock could conceivably harm your components!!
10. Altho it'll take a few hours...if you're new to OC-ing like I am/was READ the AM2 guide here: http://www.overclock.net/amd-general...ocket-am2.html
Read it 3, 4, 5 times if you have to....soon it will make sense...and it will save you weeks of hassles.

Heres my final OC, it ran 16 hours Orthos Blend 9 at 1.5vcore.....this screenie however is after I lowered vcore to 1.4750v and added a little voltage to the NB and SB. (The readout you see is the Everest OSD (on screen display))

Settings you cant see: CPU vcore = 1.4750 || trfc = 3 or max. || Max. Async = 8ns || trc = 26 || CPU<>NB HT = 1.250v || NB<>SB HT = 1.35v || NB<>PCI-E = 1.250v || SB<>PCI-E = (auto) || SB standby voltage = 1.7v or max. || SLI Ready memory = Enabled / optimal / max. OC || NB<>SB HT Frequency = (auto) || PCI-E busses = locked @ 100Mhz.

Brings a tear to my eye to see someone learning so much on their first go.

I'm happy with it, especially considering these E.O.L. 5000 BE's are pretty wimpy without Water or better cooling

BTW AMD 2nd level tech support said: The IHS's are "fused" to the CPU's on these last 5000 BE's. He said: If you try to remove the IHS you WILL destroy the CPU. He even got fairly angry when he repeated that to me, after I said....100's of people are doing it. He said they changed the FAB....and NOT to try it!! Take that for w/e its worth.
