Ok guys and gals, i know that the Playstation section probably isn't the most unbiased of places to ask about the PS3, but the thread would only get moved into this section if i put it anywhere else.

Ok, my questions.

I have bought a big a$s telly, HD dvd player and 5.1 setup.

My friends have been asking me to get a 360 to play online with them, but i am a MASSIVE Gran Turismo fan and love the idea of the Blu Ray.

So, onto the question.

Is Blu Ray worth it?

I mean, is the quality better than HD?

Is the PS3 better than the Xbox?

Please give me your views on Blu Ray and also your opinion on which is better, PS3 or 360 and REASONS WHY!

Cheers

MaK

In my opinion the PS3 is just a glorified Blu-Ray player. Any games that I really want to play are probably coming out on either 360 or PC. If they aren't...well...I make due without.

You could argue the PS3 has better hardware. But so what. The 360 gets it done.

The PS3 probably is the better console, but I will never own one because I refuse to buy a Sony Playstation. But thats another story.

Main Cons/Pros:
360:
No HD-DVD player built in
HD-DVD support is dead
Xbox Live fees

PS3:
Wouldn't mind a better control
DVD Upscaling isn't top notch(pointing this out because it can play Blu-Rays but upscaling isn't the best, although it's a console)
Fingerprints are very apparent once you touch it(REALLY ANOYING)

360:
Great Online gameplay
Good Looking

PS3:
Folding machine(pc killer)
Stylish exterior
Blu-Ray player

IMO, the PS3 would make an excellent console for your needs. You'll be able to fold like never before. The Blu-Ray player will take full advantage of your new HDTV.
To answer your Blu-ray question, Blu-Ray is HD. In fact, it's Full HD since it's 1080P. It's quality is unbelivable.

I will not go over all the points as if you do a simple search there are like hundreds of these threads around.

Gaming aside for a moment the PS3 is much more of an Overall multimedia hub than the 360 IMO.

Not only that but take into account that HD DVD is pretty much a dead format now and if you want to continue your HD format then you are going to need to think about Blu-ray...thus in that case PS3 would be a better choice for you. However if your not bothered then get a 360.

I have been reading reviews on t'internet and the common view is that the 360 is superior in every way, except playing HD DVDs.

I already have a HD DVD player, so i don't know if it's gonna be worth it just for a Blu Ray player.

Graphics: The XBOX 360 is a clear winner. The GPU is more powerful. It has more powerful fillrate, and far more pixel and vertex processing horsepower. Part of the reason is their choice of memory, and architecture of pixel and vertex procesing. I can’t get into details but the same vertex shader will run much slower on the PS3 than the XBOX 360. The 360 also has a clever new way rendering high definition anti aliased back buffers. To accomplish the same effect on PS3 is prohibitively expensive. For this reason I think many games will have no choice but to run in non-HD resolutions on the PS3 version, use a lower quality anti aliasing technique, or do back buffer upscaling. The end result in all cases is going to be noticeably worse image quality.

Well that sounds crappy.

The whole reason to get a console if for the ease of gameplay and the fact that it should look well when you get it because you can't upgrade like you can a PC.

Surely it would be silly to spend as much as i have on all HD stuff, only to get the worse looking console...:

SOMEONE MAKE THE DECISION FOR ME! I'm confused...

I have a PS3 and I am having a ball with it. My friends have a 360 and have returned it 3 times with the RROD fault. Apparently, Mr Gates Microsoft manufacturing process was not very good in the soldering quality of components to the motherboard.

That bit from the article isn't true at all, all the PS3 games run in full HD (unlike some 360 titles which we won't mention ).

As for Bluray vs HD-DVD, they look exactally the same. However, HD-DVD is offically dead now. If you want to continue getting HD movies, you will need a bluray player.

Huh...PS3 games run in full HD!. That artical was a little incorrect.
Well the 360 has better multi player game, And PS3 seems to have mostly multi console titles for its multi player branch with some good single player games of it's own. I have 14 360 games and not one of them really has any good single player action.

PSN is Ok but lag and getting disconnected are a problem, one that I find I don't have as much of with Xbox live.

The PS3 is a much much much better multi media device than the 360 buy a long shot. I have all 3 seasons of House M.D., 10 seasons of South Park, and 12 movies on my PS2 along with all of my music. I did have to upgrade the Hard drive because the little 40GB one was just not cutting it but I only paid 50$ for a 160GB laptop HDD were as the 120GB upgrade for the Xbox360 is like 180$.

So all in all I think the PS3 is better. The 360 is a “very good” game system and that is all. The PS3 is a “good” game system but also is a very good multi media device. In time with more games and more first party releases for the PS3 I think it could become a better game system than the 360.
