i am newish to overclocking and am afraid to touch voltages for fear of alot of money going out of a suddenly appearing window...

i have been building systems for years but have finally built up a system worth keeping for more than a year, and worth overclocking (see sig)

i am currently sitting at 2525.2MHz per core (202MHz x12.5) @ 1.192V

any advice for voltage thresholds to stay near to when aiming for certain speed thresholds?

aiming around 2.7 to 3.0

Up your CPU multi to 13.5 and increase CPU voltage to 1.25. Set the base reference ("FSB") back to 200. That should give you a stable 2.7 ghz.

I can't say to much about getting higher as I'm still having hell getting past 2.7 ghz stable, still trying though. Wish I was one of the lucky ones that could hit 3 ghz just upping multi

Thanks very much, I've stepped up to 2.6 for now, walking before running... took the side off, zalman is still ice cold as well.

I've had many a cmos jumper clearing from failed overclocking attempts, meaning I havent really ever stepped above 1% overclocking, I never knew about upping voltages to compensate until earlier this week.

Most people with x63 OS's have a hard time getting above 2.8 with the Phenoms. You should be able to do that however with just stock volts.

I turned my router off for the night so I couldn't monitor progress.
highest and most stable I had was 2828.28MHz per core before going back down to 2700 for thermal reasons, got some zalman super grease on the way though, replace (whats left of) the old generic paste...

I haven't tried overclocking on x64 yet, stock volts?!?!

Also, in AMD Overdrive, I see 2 voltages for the CPU, the VID, and the VDDC, I am usually changing the VID and leaving the VDDC, when I am clocking up, the VDDC ends up glowing yellow/orange/red depending on how far the rest is clocked up, am I doing something wrong?

Woops typo on that x64 OS.... and I can do 2925 on stock volts. Anything above that and I need to bump of the vcore a little.

Anyway, you want to use the CPU VDDC for adjusting volts. That is actually the same as the vcore in the bios. The VID does soemething else, can't remember exactly right now, but it is really not important.

Thats what I would like to know, it seems there are times I can do 2.8 ghz for a couple of days stable then out of the blue I get a lock up, random reboot, or a BSOD. Right now I'm at 2767mhz, but not 100% stable, I'd say about 90%. Temps are not the issue as I can be idling at 2.8 ghz with temps ~43C and still get lock up, random reboot, or a BSOD.

I am debating going back to 32 bit, but would like to get 8 gig of ram soon... I quess in reality, The SB750 based motherboards needs to hurry up and AMD needs to get there 45nm chips out soon, but the motherboards first, I'd bet(hope) that they really aid in the overclocking area.
