[Yahoo] WAR "a couple of years out" - Page 2

There is no way the Warhammer MMO got pushed back a "couple" of years. It was coming out in a few months last time I checked. Unless they are going to start from scratch that would kill the game. The graphics are already a bit dated.

I dont mind at all paying $15 month because games like WoW, Age of Conan, ect.. keep my occupied and I actually save money, because I spend less time renting movies, renting Console games, playing golf, eating (LOL)...
I don't buy this at all. They are talking about in game advertising that will bring in enough revenue to satisfy server costs for years to come. Making someone pay $50 for a game, then rape them of their cash every month to actually play the game is nonsense. I will not buy or play any game that requires a monthly fee.

Come back to the realistic world.
In game advertisment amount's to chump change compared to the Dev cost's these large MMO's incure. If the game has no monthly fee's you can expect many server problems, downtime, terrible support, and very few weak updates.

The only MMO's that can sustain itself with no subscription are the Oriental MMO's. Have you tried playing those?

How is 10-15$ per month "raping them of their cash".
For 15$ you can play many hours on a game each month, yet if you rent a few movies, or even if you go to the movie theater once you've paid the same amount for much less entertainment.

But they also generate cash from in-game items. I prefer subscription.

If there is ONE thing that should be normalized it is in-game character power. I seriously dislike games where I can buy items with real money that are better than other peoples in game items.

Games that have a monthly fee, and lets make it clear here that a $15 monthly fee is NOT much, but allow everyone playing to experience the content are better than games that allow optional payment for vast amounts of power.

Man I don't see where you guys get your cash. I make a _really_ good salary and I think $10-$15 a month is too much to shell out to play a video game (and I buy video games all the time). I stopped going to movies when they started putting advertisements at the beginning of the movies but I don't think it compares since a movie is something to share (and you can make out if you have a friend... try that with a video game). Even my Netflix only costs me $9/month. (and I get to make out on the couch!)

I bought Guild Wars when it released and enjoyed it for about 6 months before getting bored of the same old hack and slash (different quest, same procedure). Same with the free online MMO...'s. I guess if you bought every one of the Guild Wars updates, at full price you would be paying about $5/month on average (don't remember how many they have released).

Honestly I do prefer the online games, but with all the kiddies hacking to make kills it gets old. so I have been enjoying the single player games more and more (so long as they have some decent content). I still enjoy firing up Delta Force eXtreme for a round of COOP with my buds. People are still making maps for that game and they just keep getting better. There are still LOTS of servers online with a decent amount of people playing and since the game was coded well, they don't need any updates (alright, so it was a re-write that could only get better).

I have supported many software developers including a couple of teams at EA and I know what goes into creating good software including games. In game adverts are NOT chump change by any means. The companies that use them make money off them and instead of funneling that cash to the support of the game, they spend it on marketing and future development of new games (what little is left over from the marketing groups). I feel that the game companies have you fooled into thinking they need the monthly fees to support the game, so you pay. They win. Do you think that if enough people complained about the fees they would not take notice? Hey but then again, the same people that pay to play, also pay for things like ringtones and wallpaper for their cellies (things you can get for free), so that says something. Not sure what...

In the end, if they want my cash, it is NOT going to be a monthly fee. Make a good game and I will buy it so long as I can play it without a fee.

EDIT: Sorry for getting wordy, I just hit post reply and saw how long my rant got... I feel I owe all of you just for reading it...

How is 15$ a month to much for a game. Lets break this down. Say the average is 30 days in a month. thats 50 cents per day. You cant save 2 quarters to play a game for a month. GG sir.
