E2160 or E4500 - is the $50 worth it? - Page 2

I have tried all except E2220. It seems the fsb wall gets lower as the multi gets higher. I tried three E2200. Only one went to 3.7G. The two settled around 3.1G. Here is one.

You will see about a 5 to 10% FPS improvement if you go with the E4xxx over the E2xxx Allendales. The extra cache does offer some benefit in gaming. However, it is up to you whether 50 bucks is worth the extra fps. And both chips have insane overclocking capabilities with proper cooling. IE: NOT MY GEMINI II

+1 for e2180, seen some real nice results, I do wish the cache was a bit more, but thats how intel pushes the upsell

Get the e2160 or e2180, I believe most(if not all) current e2xx0s are M0... The 10x mult on the e2180 makes overclocking(and any math you might try in your head) really really easy.

Still 3.0 ghz is fairly easy to achieve on just about any allendale, even one with a 9x multi. Heck my e4300(L2) does 334FSB x9 on stock volts and 370 x9 on 1.45(Hard wall @ 380). They all seem to wall out somewhere between 340 - 400(as always there are some exceptions).

I think $10 more for the e2180 is justified, if the difference was $25+ I'd say not worth it.

if youre looking for sli you might want to look at the new 750i especially if you want two pci-e 16x cards like the 8800gtx (not really budget sli card but a example which will only run on two 16x)

Yeah E2180 is probably the best "bang for buck" CPU on the market today, that compared with a good mobo could produce some very good results.
