For me I am waiting for the Octo core coming in November. It will probably also run at top HT speed of over 5000. But Im broke right now anyway. Enjoy the 9850 and let us know what you get out of it. Im told that it will also work on our MB. God Bless.

Dude, an Octo-core CPU?????? That would be awesome, but who will really use that much speed aside from servers?? Could you imagine 8 Cores x2.5GHz? That would be fast . We'll see how they turn out though. Maybe they'll even wipe the floor with Intel .

Hello,

I am trying to overclock my Phenom 9850.. but I've been successful up to 2.6GHz....

I'm running on an Asus M3A32-MVP Deluxe Series motherboard.
CORSAIR Dominator 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel RAM.

I got it to run at 2.73GHz, voltage as high as 1.45 and at 1.40, but some reason it just doesn't seem stable... I was able to run AMD OverDrive Stability test on this processor at 1.40V for 30 minutes on full load... Some reason it can manage that, but when not using it hard, little processing, I get a BSoD over the Clock Interrupt. I can't get it to 2.8GHz because then Windows refuses to boot... just freezes before it begins to...

I am unsure what to really, honestly do here... right now my Multiplier is at default setting of 12.5 and Bus Speed at 210MHz. With the voltage at 1.280v...

I'm trying to accomplish getting at least 2.8 - 2.9GHz on my processor, fully stable... my main goal is 3.0GHz.

I'm using a Zalman 9700 cooler. Could someone with a higher overclock than me, let me know what exact settings they set in their overclock? All help and information are greatly appriciated.

Hey and welcome..
i have a VERY simalor system to you (as u can see in sig).. i started off having alot of trouble with my chip.. wouldnt get any higher than 2.63 EVER...
but then i learnt about ganged vs unganged... did some research and EVERYONE tells you to turn it off... so i did (which is done in DRAM settings in the overclock menu) ... so now im running unganged memory and can get my chip up to 3.0 stableish... currently my pc is prime stable and is cranking hard in games...

my current setup and its running nicely!! but still alot of room for improvement.. still havnt hit 10k 3d mark.. waitin for the ATI 4 series!!! they look phat

DATGUY is right, set RAM to unganged mode, and up your multi to 13.5 or 14. DDR2-1066 RAM is Super OC'd 800 stix anyway, so it might not handle the full OC @ 12.5x multi. You could try 13.5 multi and 208 FSB, would get you to 2.8. 3GHz is hard to do @ the moment, unless you have the right cooling - a Zalman 9700 won't do it properly. I have mine @ 14x200, 1066 is plenty fast for me. Let me know if you get it running like that.
post #117 of 191
I can't tell... I tried 13.5 x 210... no boot... 13.5 x 8... boot, but corrupted file.

That is even shown up in safe mode, even after downclocking it back and ganging the RAM again. All I still see is a black screen with the mouse... I will try the Windows Repair on the disk again... if that failes, I'll load Linux from a CD and try fixing the file myself.

Unless you guys know how to fix it and tell me. ^^;

Huh. Ganged holds back the CPU?

Right now, I'm able to have my memory, at least, at it's EPP settings (hand-set the five specified timings, and the voltage) and it seems to run fine. Don't have much in the way of direct tests for the memory, though. I had been wondering why the CPU wouldn't go over 2.6, though.

Very new to OC'ing. Only just started with this rig.

As for the RAM... I just switched from a 4x1GB arrangement which managed the full 1066MHz by default. I switched to these so the motherboard only had to handle two modules, but found them performing at 800MHz, and when I told it to up to 1066, it set the timings to 5-7-7-24-31. Set the EPP timings and it ran fine- though that last timing keeps going one quicker than I set it. Right now, I have it set to 25, and it shows up as 24. I'll have to set it to 23 to get the proper EPP, when I get home.

Ack. >> It appears Linux doesn't allow me permission to add any files to my internal harddrives. =\\ I guess I will try something.. hopefully I can get my windows back running. ;~;

Can overclock attemps really corrupt a file like this when they fail?

It's not the OC attempt itself that corrupts the file. What corrupts the file is when it loads into a bad part of the RAM that's OC'd and gets saved back to the HDD in a corrupted state because of the RAM. So, it's all about your RAM. Have you tried running Memtest on it?
